Weatherboards
Weatherboards have gone up – definitely a good way to break up the bricks:
Outside the laundry looking into the garage:
Back of the house – top windows are missing but that’s because they were a late addition so will have to wait a few more weeks:
Interlocking alfresco doors installed:
Waiting on the front door:
Roof Is On and Windows Are In
We spent a long time agonising over what colour the roof should be, but in the end we picked a blue-ish grey that we thought would compliment the brown bricks and garden (when it eventually goes in):
We still can’t get over the size of the porch – it excites us every time we see it. The windows also went in soon after the roof went on:
View of the house from the backyard – we love the big sloping look of the roof:
Front entry hallway – glad we decided to move the walk in wardrobe back so that it didn’t encroach on the hallway space:
The entry hallway looking out from the main living spaces. You can see the space where the fridge will be going (we have since had the plumbing installed and asked for a water line there so we can have a fridge with an ice-maker), and the walk in pantry next to it on the far right:
Glass panels installed above the dining room windows! These weren’t in the original plans, however whenever I went to see the house I always thought how I would love to be able to accentuate the ceiling height somehow — also I wasn’t sure what I would do with the bare wall space up there. It’s a little cathedral looking! The light that floods in is fantastic:
Looking into the living area – the frame for the fireplace is in:
Looking into the ensuite from the main bedroom – because the ceilings slope downwards on each side of the house, the builder installed a bulkhead above the vanity and continues into the shower where we will be installing a shower head from directly above instead of from the wall (apparently if it was 10mm lower we wouldn’t have been able to, and the builder will also have to push the shower head up a little further than usual into the ceiling):
This week we will both be taking a half day off work to go speak with kitchen designers and tilers — lots of decisions to make! Pictures to follow 🙂
Stage Two – The Frame Goes Up
The next week after the slab was poured, the bones of the frame began going up. So exciting – we had “walls”!
Over the next week, the house continued to come alive:
So far we have not had many issues with the build apart from a few minor changes that we asked the builder to make including lowering towel racks, building longer walls around the showers to minimise the use of glass – and cleaning time! – the ensuite shower will have no glass at all, and the main shower just for the door. Our builder has been extremely accommodating and does his best to listen to our requests.
Pictures to come!
